Inside the old location.
The museum moved to its new location in Two Rivers during the first half of 2013.

"The Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum is the only museum dedicated to the preservation, study, production and printing of wood type. With 1.5 million pieces of wood type and more than 1,000 styles and sizes of patterns, Hamilton's collection is one of the premier wood type collections in the world. In addition to wood type, the Museum is home to an amazing array of advertising cuts from the 1930s through the 1970s, and all of the equipment necessary to make wood type and print with it, as well as equipment used in the production of hot metal type, tools of the craft and rare type specimen catalogs."

Birthplace of the Ice Cream Sundae

Birthplace of the Ice Cream Sundae
Birthplace of the Ice Cream Sundae
"In 1881, George Hallauer asked Edward C. Berner, the owner of a soda fountain at 1404 - 15th Street, to top a dish of ice cream with chocolate sauce, hitherto used only for ice cream sodas. The concoction cost a nickel and soon became very popular, but was sold only on Sundays. One day a ten year old girl insisted she have a dish of ice cream 'with that stuff on top,' saying they could 'pretend it was Sunday.' After that, the confection was sold every day in many flavors. It lost its Sunday only association, to be called ICE CREAM SUNDAE when a glassware salesman placed an order with his company for the long canoe-shaped dishes in which it was served, as 'Sundae dishes.'"

Assman Road
location:   Mishicot
intriguing road name

We all know that Assman is a proud family surname to some folks living in this area, but for the rest of us... I'll bet you ten dollars to a bag of doughnuts that the Assman road signs have been stolen periodically.

UPDATE: Before I could even post this content, I found a Flickr photo of a nearby road (link at right) with the comments supporting my notion that the Assman road signs are the delight of local thieves.

Henning's Cheese Store Museum

"A dream of Everett Henning's, the son of founder Otto Henning, had always been to build a cheese museum showcasing the cheese equipment that was used during the early 1900's. Everett's dream came true in 2008 with the opening of the new cheese store and museum at our factory in Kiel, Wisconsin. The museum features an old cheese vat, press, separator, and some old butter making equipment. Some other items include testing equipment used to check the butterfat in farmers milk, an old can washer, cheese forms, milk receiving equipment and cheese making equipment (wooden rake and shovel)."

Hotel Hell
2013 UPDATE: Strong winds caused much damage to the Hotel during a terrible storm on August 7th. A good portion of the structure collapsed, leaving less than half of the stone exterior standing. The future of the ruins are undetermined.

"An old abandoned building owned by Al Capone close to the Maribel Caves. This hotel was inflames in the 1920's, and it 'GLOWS' when the new moon is out. From the road, you can see every detail of that hotel. This hotel is surrounded by woods and across the street is also wooded. Its a three story hotel, all but abandoned, you can't get to the third floor anymore because of holes in the stairway. Third floor has reported to have cold hands applying pressure to their back. If you flash your light at a second floor window they flash back at you. In the basement, feelings of being threatened. The name "Hotel Hell" came from the blood on the walls and the yelling from the basement, the ring of the bell and the sound of wheels. The smell of sewer gas is still there in the bathrooms. Old books were in one of the rooms upstairs, burst into flames."

First constructed as a sawmill, Rock Mill was quickly converted to a gristmill after the area's available timber was depleted. Serving mostly local German, Czech and Irish immigrant farmers, Rock Mill ground as many as 118 bags of grain a day and produced wheat, rye and graham flour and animal feed.
