Pyramid of the Nile
Pyramid of the Nile
A sad sight to see two of the previous occupants' names visible at the same time on the weathered road sign.
UPDATE: The restaurant has closed its doors once again. Formerly "The Pyramid Supper Club", then "The Nile Club", this structure is currently up for sale. Interested in owning a unique Wisconsin dining destination? Check out the listing at the First Weber link to the right.

"The Pyramid of the Nile is an historic icon of Dodge County. The building is an over 40 foot tall pyramid. It's unique structure has made it famous all over Wisconsin. The interior is decorated with ancient Egyptian sculptures and paintings. The Pyramid was constructed in the 1960's by two local couples. The restaurant quickly became 'The Place' to go for an elegant evening of fine dining."

Toilet Bowl Parade
"One of the Fire Company’s annual fund raising events is the New Year’s Day Toilet Bowl. The idea of the Toilet Bowl originated in 1967 as the result of a conversation between two Hustisford residents who sought an alternative to watching the bowl games on TV. The no-pads, no helmets’ game enticed more and more participating players and spectators each year... Prior to the noon parade, the year’s royalty are announced. The newly crowned king and queen ride through the parade on a giant toilet-shaped float and exchange throwing billowing rolls of toilet paper with parade goers. The football game follows in the snow-covered outfield of the Village Ballpark."

The Tallman House
Like the Summerwind mansion in Vilas County or the Nodolf house near Platteville, the Tallman house in Horicon was deemed worthy of being recreated for a television program. "Unsolved Mysteries" aired a segment that dealt with the strange occurrences that plagued the Tallman family starting back in 1986. Accounts may vary on what actually happened in this house, but several incidents keep repeating, such as the radio in a child's room changed stations by itself, a figure of an old woman was seen behind a bedroom door at night, the father saw the attached garage engulfed in flames, plus many other poltergeist-like events. The stories also mention a bunk bed that was thought to be the source of the disturbances, so it was sent to a landfill.

In the book "Strange Wisconsin", author Linda Godfrey tells about the harmless phantoms that have been witnessed by the owners and guests alike in this century-old bed & breakfast.

"‘Before that,’ she said, ‘guests always told me there was a poltergeist in there. One night I slept in the room and I didn't sleep a wink. Guests used to say a young girl appeared to them, and objects would be moved.’"

The school in question is believed to be Ashippun Elementary School, which has been demolished. Perhaps some haunted townhouses will be built on the plot. The debate is out on the school's paranormal status. One story concerns a young girl who took a shortcut near the school and was never seen or heard from again.

Contrary to thrill-seekers' wishes, the ghosts in question here were nothing more than Prohibition-era moonshiners who dressed up in sheets to scare off the revenuers, who had come to seek out illegal stills in the woods. Several hills can be found on this road with no clue as to identity of the true Ghost Hill.

Known also as the Old Jaeger Rye Mill, this structure was built in 1840 on the banks of the Crawfish River. The mill's last operator, Edwin Jaeger, died in 1983, leaving behind a family legacy going back to the 1880's, when Edwin's father began to work at the mill. Today the building is clearly marked with 'No Trespassing' signs to keep curious folks out, but from the nearby bridge, the mill can be viewed, still standing as a proud and picturesque reminder of days gone by.
