Ed Gein's Property private property
infamous crime scene |
location: Plainfield |
In 1957, bachelor farmer Ed Gein was arrested for murdering a local Plainfield woman. When his old farmhouse was being searched, a macabre discovery was made: the body of Gein's victim was hanging upside down, nude, beheaded and gutted like a deer. It wasn't the only disturbing sight in the home. As it turned out, Ed was robbing graves in the area and amassing a collection of body parts. He used human skin to fashion lampshades and other items. The home was burned to the ground not long after his arrest.
From the intersection with Hwy 39, take Hwy 73 west for 2 miles. Turn left on County Road KK. Follow KK for 2 miles, then turn right on Archer Ave. Gein's property is on the southwest corner of the intersection of Archer and 2nd Ave.

Ed Gein's Grave
infamous grave |
location: Plainfield |
Gein died in prison in 1984, but his foul deeds were not forgotten. His gravesite west of Plainfield was soon being visited by vandals, who stole his headstone in 2000. He remains buried in an unmarked grave between the plots of his brother, who is rumored to have been killed by Ed when they were young, and his mother, who was so adored by Ed that her room was kept in pristine condition after her death despite the horrifically unkempt state in the rest of the house.
Highway 39 intersects Highway 73 west of Plainfield. Very close to the east of that intersection is 5th Avenue. Take 5th Avenue north. The cemetery is on the right. The grave is near the rear of the cemetery on the western edge of one of the driving lanes.

The reports on this site are presumably fiction, using random Wisconsin place names in the stories listed there. Even so, you might get a kick out of reading them.
"The ghost of a mail carrier is once in a while distinguished seated on the floor in an apartment in Wild Rose. A person who lives here asserts that this phantom is the undead soul of a long dead Wild Rose local person."

"It has been told that before the property became a campsite for children and teenagers for summer vacations, the lot was owned by a farmer and his wife. It is known that the farmer went crazy when he found out that the wife was pregnant, so he drowned her in the lake, and the farmer was never seen again. Recently, two counselors from the campsite went to check on a missing camper out in the woods at night, and ran into what was an extremely bright light where they describe that they "couldn't see a thing." They said they had no choice, but to turn around because the light was blinding, and as they turned around they saw a woman run away from them. The counselors start running in a different direction...a direction that lead to the only tent on the campsite, but when they started running for the tent, they realized they couldn't find it. So, they both turned around to look and see where exactly they were when they noticed that the tent was in fact right behind them...the weird thing about this is, is that in order to end up in front of the tent, you have to cross a road, which the counselors themselves told me they "Never, ever crossed." One counselor said "We were running and running as fast as we could, and then we found ourselves in front of the tent which is impossible unless you cross the road...which we did not." Strange indeed, and it has been told that investigators had found the pregnant farmer's wife in the lake, and buried her underneath the campground. Still today, the lady remains underneath the site in body, but in soul she remains on earth. Watch out carefully for her as you visit this site."

*Hmm. As far as I can see, the body of water in Wild Rose is only known as "Wild Rose Pond/Millpond". There is a Tuttle Lake about 20 miles south near Neshkoro in Marquette County. And there is a camp there (Camp Indian Sands) for children.
