The Chair That Grew
in the lobby at Noritage Inc.

location:  Embarrass
arbor- sculpture

"In 1908, John Krubsack, central Wisconsin farmer-banker, started out to grow this chair. He secured twenty-eight box elder seeds, laid them out in a well-planned diagram, watered them each day and treated the soil carefully. After three years all the trees had sprouted and grown considerably. He then started to graft the trunks together so that he would have the properly shaped legs, a suitable back, a comfortable seat, and restful arms...In ten years, he cut all the trees except four (the four legs). The eleventh year he cut the last four, trimmed the trees, put on the final touches and then breathed a sigh of great relief. His dream had come true."

"Mukwa Motel"

location:  New London
roadside oddity

No, it's not an actual backwoods Wisconsin inn.  But you may enjoy bringing your sweetie here after promising to take her to a "charming rural retreat" for the weekend.  You know those barroom gag props like the "Polish Two-Holer"?  The Mukwa Motel represents the perfect blend of unrefined humor, tongue-in-cheek local pride and rural ingenuity.

strip mall with character

Home of the Average Joe Car Show, this small cluster of old-fashioned-looking stores (& a wedding chapel) sits along Highway 10.
A billboard nearby boasts:
"QUILTS  JEWELRY  FUDGE  SWORDS",
which is great because it means you can stop by to buy gifts for everyone in the family, including Grandma, Mom, Sis, and crazy Uncle Jeff.

Giant Ice Cream Cone
at Dairy Queen

location:  Clintonville
roadside oddity

Oh, plain old vanilla...  Well, at least it's large.

It looks close in appearance to the cones found in the Fast Corp online catalog, but it's not exactly the same as what they display.  Not the diamond pattern on this cone reaches all the way to the top, unlike Fast Corp's.

Fremont Yeti  (1968)
aka the "Abominable Snowman" of the Deltox Marsh

bigfoot
location:  Fremont

A group of hunters spy a Bigfoot creature in the Deltox Marsh.

"The composite description of the creature that emerged was that of a large and powerfully built man covered with short, very dark brown or black hair and (as invariably in descriptions of these creatures) with a lighter and hairless face and hairless palms...Anybody who dressed himself up in a monkey suit and then danced around in the open in front of a line of even local hunters, giving his famous imitation of a dancing bear or a distraught, escaped ape, could only be intent on suicide."

Marsh Road

haunted road creature
location:  Weyauwega

Paranormal activity has been reported in photographs.  An old story of a "Goat Man" killing two young lovers on a "makeout couch" on the road still makes the rounds on the internet.  This is one of two Goatmen reported in Wisconsin.  The other being in Washington County.  There's also a story about a Goatman near Denton, Texas.  Is there some confusion here?

Head south of Weyauwega on Highway 10/110 for 1¾ miles.  Turn left (east) onto Evanswood Road, then right onto Marsh Road.

"Ghosts of America" Haunted Location Reports
(take with a grain of salt)

ghosts
location:  statewide

The reports on this site are presumably fiction, using random Wisconsin place names in the stories listed there.  Even so, you might get a kick out of reading them.

"The phantom of a young Indian combatant has once in a while been perceived dining on a carrot before dawn on a park bench in Waupaca. One thing is for certain, this is an unsympathetic ghost that any sensible person wouldn't want to bump into."
